Book project against racism

How to deal with books that use the racist term for Sinti and Roma without reflection or reproduce racist clichés?

SUSH thinks so: They either belong in the bin or in a museum with an explanation. Such books should not be sold or lent by libraries. They pass on unreflected racist clichés and language from generation to generation.

But what about the books that are still sold or found in libraries? As part of our book project, we have examined all books about Sinti and Roma in the public libraries of Neumünster and Rendsburg from an anti-racist perspective.

We want to add a text to the books that use racist terms or reproduce racist clichés, explaining racist clichés and describing the terms used by and for the Sinti and Roma minority. We want to withdraw racist books from circulation. We are also planning workshops on the representation of Sinti and Roma in literature. The project is organised by Sinto Marlo Thormann.
